Help

Ok so I've checked out the Help me pay for my Wedding blog found here and it got me thinking about a couple of things.
1. Our wedding was expensive and we had no money saved for it. Thank God our parents chipped in and helped out. Plus we had a lot of contacts that also donated and helped out. I did the flowers with help from my bridesmaids, sister-in-law and mother-in-law. Since I'm not a big cake person we ordered one from the local grocery store. I wasn't about to drop $1,000 on cake! In all the wedding turned out perfect.
2. We are in the process of saving up for a down payment on a house and I got to thinking should I start a site where people can donate money towards my dream house. But then I thought its too much hassle and extra work that I don't think I have time for. But if I want something to happen I have to put my mind to it. Now I'm on the fence about this. Plus I don't deal with mean people well. I usually retaliate. What do you think?

  1. Well, if you do it, you very well might get some mean comments, so definitely be prepared for that. I also think that the chances of raising a whole lot aren't great. I think the reason the bride on Help Me Pay For My Wedding is getting some attention is that there are a LOT of wedding websites and forums out there, and brides love to talk. Because she's been discussed on a few big wedding blogs (Martha Stewart Weddings and The Knot), she's getting attention that she probably wouldn't have gotten if she'd been raising money for something other than a wedding.

It could work, and you won't know unless you try, but unfortunately, there's typically no easy way of getting money.

Either way, I really hope you end up getting your dream house someday, and I wish you nothing but the best!

  2. Thanks Tova. After the hubby and I talked about it, it's more of a hassle plus we are doing a good job of living frugally. By this time next year we should be in our house. (fingers crossed). PLus I don't think that people would want to give to something like that. Oh well.
    Thanks for the comment.
